"[ELECTIONS] ARE FRIENDS, NOT FOOD"

Helloo everyone! Welcome to our last blog :)

Today we'll be talking about our elections, which to say the least was...interesting. First I'll introduce what specifically we'll be talking about today. BUT even before that, I'll answer the question "How is Voting a Linkage Institution?" Well linkage institutes are a way to connect the government to it's citizens, and what better way to do that than to let it's citizens vote who can and can not be in the government? Here is a fun video about elections so you won't have to read too much!

Elections can influence an individual's political beliefs because it affects their voting behavior. People will be more likely to vote for candidates and propositions that resonate with their beliefs.

People will vote for candidates and propositions that line up with their political beliefs. Elections are a key linkage institute, because it is the best way for citizens to connect to the government.

Now the specific election I will be talking about today is the 2018 Gubernatorial Election in Georgia. Where Stacey Abrams (Democrat) ran against Brian Kemp (Hard Republican). Both Abrams and Kemp ran for the position of Governor for Georgia.

Kemp and Abrams ran against each other in the 2018 Mid-Year elections, for the Governor position in Georgia.
Now let's talk about our candidates...

Stacey Abrams -

Stacey Abrams is a member of the Democratic party. Her key issues that she advocates for are affordable healthcare, equality, and criminal justice.

We will now view an artifact from her website:

This artifact displays a lot of what Abrams believes and advocates for. It also urges Georgians to get out and vote during the election, and to make every vote count. This artifact displays Abrams democratic beliefs and her stances for some issues. The video also displays a lot of diversity and a push for equality related beliefs.

Brian Kemp -

Brian Kemp is a member of the Republican party, and he's as republican as they come... *cough*. Kemp advocates strongly for gun rights, low taxes, and against immigration.

Let's now look at this VERY interesting ad...

Yeah... anyways... this artifact shows A LOT of what Kemp argues for in terms of political "issues". It also shows just how republican Kemp truly is. This artifact reflects his bias or republican stances and how strongly he stands for these issues. It also shows that he runs an extreme campaign and he is not afraid to show how strongly Republican he is.

Now let's focus on Kemp and Abrams stance on immigration and how... different they are. Kemp is very against immigration as per his ad...and how he'd "pick up immigrants in his pickup and drive them back to the border". While Abrams is more accepting and open to immigrants, and even fights for their rights and equality in the U.S. This difference is meaningful because it shows just how different these two candidates are, and this will predict what direction Georgia will head in the future. Will they become radically Republican? Or will Georgia start turning blue?

Georgia has been a red state for many years now, and as Abrams runs for office she hopes to turn Georgia blue.

Their stances also reveals a lot about their priorities and ideology. Kemp prioritizes citizens and what the U.S can do to help themselves. While Abrams is looking for a way to benefit us and people beyond the U.S. Their opinion matches their political parties to a T.
